The State Attorney's Office, 15th Judicial Circuit, is currently accepting applications for a

VICTIM ADVOCATE I.

Position title: VICTIM ADVOCATE I.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This is a specialized position that is responsible for independent work acting as a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney (A.S.A.) and victims of crimes.

This position is responsible for a wide variety of office duties including but not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with attorneys and victims in both verbal and written form.

  • Provide victims with information regarding their rights under Chapter 960 and the Florida Constitution.

  • Inform victims of the stages of the criminal justice process, provide notification of any required appearances/cancellations as well as their right to request restitution and provide assistance to document financial losses and file claims for Victim Compensation.

  • Appropriately document all contacts with victims in case notes, case management system and/or in memorandums to the A.S.A. Keep track of all services provided to report to grant providers when appropriate.

  • Assess needs of victims and coordination with social services agencies to ensure victims receive needed services.

  • Provide other services as needed such as transportation, a separate Pre-Trial waiting area and appropriate translator services as needed or requested.

  • Perform any and all duties as required.

    Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required:

  • Dependable and routine in-office attendance especially on-time arrival to help ASA prepare victims for court.

  • Ability to work weekends on a rotating schedule and occasional approved overtime.

  • Efficient typing skills and ability to operate a computer and other office machinery.

  • Effective and efficient communication skills and ability to interact professionally with other employees, members of the public and stakeholders.

  • Perform quality work within deadlines.

  • Ability to read and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Work effectively as a team contributor as well as independently.

  • Ability to run the telephone system and respond to calls professionally.

    Salary & Benefits

    Current entry-level annual salary for Support Staff is $32,760.00. This position includes a comprehensive benefit package including:

    Minimum Training and Experience:

    A high school diploma or equivalency and experience in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for required experience.

    Physical Demands :

    This position requires normal pushing, lifting and moving of boxes and files up to 25 lbs.

    Any offer of employment would be contingent upon a negative drug screen and must pass background records check and fingerprinting.

    The successful candidate will be required to complete the Form I-9 and that information will be verified using the E-Verify system. E-Verify is operated by the Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the Social Security Administration to verify employment eligibility.
