Amazon Energy Projects Manager, AWS Energy Team, AIET West/LATAM in Seattle, Washington

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Amazon is seeking a self-starter to join the AWS Energy team in pioneering the future for data center utility power in how AWS delivers energy projects and partners with electric utilities and energy companies across the Americas West region. In this role, you will manage multiple, large scale and technically complex power infrastructure projects across multiple geographies by facilitating close collaboration between both internal and external stakeholders. Internally, responsibilities include large portfolio project management, reporting status, risks, mitigations and successes to VP level leadership, solving technical issues with design and field engineering teams, as well as influencing multiple cross-functional partner teams in the overall data center capacity delivery business process. Externally, this role takes ownership of managing utility relationships, coordinating efforts between engineering, construction and operation in project design, scheduling and budgeting, and contracting with the utility, EPC and/or Owner’s Engineer. The individual will be part of an integrated team to implement a fast scaling portfolio of high voltage and medium voltage projects that meets and exceeds AWS’ energy program requirements, ultimately delivering projects on time, with tangible reliability and cost-saving results.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong project management background and a proven track record of developing and delivering on large, at-scale energy projects (50MW+). Experience working with electric utilities to develop, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure is a must. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to drive critical path schedules, solve technical challenges, and independently drive tactical mitigation of capacity delivery delays. The candidate must have experience in reliably delivering initiatives to completion in constrained and ambiguous environments, with practice in escalating and reporting to many organization leaders and teams across multiple levels. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.

This role requires some domestic travel (25%).

Key job responsibilities

• Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including scheduling, budgeting, and general construction management.

• Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.

• Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects to meet growth signals for capacity needs across the business. Collaborate with the internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy and projects to meet the business timelines.

• Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.

• Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
