CEC is seeking a talented structural Design Technician with an interest in bridge and transportation projects to join our Transportation Practice. This position will directly support CECs mission to eliminate aging infrastructure and drive community growth by helping to deliver quality design and service to its clients. CECs Transportation team has a long history of state and local agency transportation services consisting of technical expertise from our Oklahoma offices and emerging offices in Texas and Arkansas.

Expand your knowledge with new experiences in a broad range of structure types from the detailing of conventional grade separations to complex flyover bridges to major open water crossings. Collaborate with professional engineers to produce solutions that are verified through team cooperation and experiences.

The selected candidate will have a certificate from a college or technical school in computer aided drafting or a minimum of six months of experience and/or training in computer aided drafting or related construction experience. In this role you will develop abilities in plan production and project delivery for transportation structures and components associated with our client transportation needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize computer software to create or assist in the creation of detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, including, but not limited to, plan and profile views, cross sections, details and schedules, for the construction of bridge components, such as decks, steel and concrete beams, bearings, piers, abutments and foundations.
  • Calculate profile, dimensions, square footage, component specifications and material quantities using calculator or computer.
  • Participate in and ensure QC/QA procedures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with engineers, designers, and other technicians on project activities.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school or six months to one year related experience and/or training.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil3D drafting software is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percent ges, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Remote connectivity device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, etc.) with data plan sufficient for company requirements, including multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.

Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Ability to sit up to eight hours per day.

Ability to stand and/or walk, including over uneven surfaces, for extended periods of time (field visits).

Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
