Tidelands Health Histology Technologist - Georgetown Memorial Hospital (Georgetown, SC) in Georgetown, South Carolina

Position Summary: The Histology technician completes routine Histology to include embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and coverslipping of slides. Duties will include processing and staining of non-gyn cytology specimens; perform special staining and ImmunoHistoChemical staining; assisting pathologist and/or pathologists’ assistants at the grossing station with frozen sections and FNA procedures; independent performance of Frozen Section Process without pathologists' assistance; accessioning of pathology specimens; daily documentation of QC; working with computers and LIS program; attention to patient safety goals to include accurate specimen and patient identification and other initiatives as determined by GHS and overall completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • A minimum of (2) two years direct lab tech experience required. Preferably in a hospital-based setting.

  • Specific Histology Technician experience preferred.

Education and Certification : ( Satisfies one of the following)

  • Associate degree in Histology or Biological Science required; bachelor’s degree preferred plus certification as a Histotech within 12 months of hire date.

  • Current MT, MLS or MLT plus Certification as a Histotech by a national agency within 12 months of hire date.

Special Skills:

  • Demonstrated excellence in core value customer skills required.

  • Strong PC skills required.

  • Strong Analytical skills required.

Other:

  • Meditech Experience preferred.

  • Positive criminal and motor vehicle background checks results indicating a strong level of community responsibility required.

Physical Requirements: Light-Medium Physical Agility Test Rating

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and will be tested by post offer PAT.
