Department Details

Endoscopy specializes in gastroenterological and pulmonary diseases. The Broadway Hospital Endoscopy Lab specializes in diagnostic and screening of GI and Pulmonary procedures. Endoscopy at SMCF specializes in specialty GI cases. Among both sites we have 10 procedure rooms and 12 prep/recovery bays.

Procedures performed in the Endoscopy include the following: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Upper Endoscopic Ultrasound (UEUS), Lower Endoscopic Ultrasound (LEUS), Small Bowel Scope, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Esophageal Manometry, Rectal Manometry, Small Bowel Pillcam and Hydrogen Breath Test.

Among our locations we perform about 60 cases a day and average of 1300 cases per month. We have GI on call 24/7 team to provide support for inpatient emergent and non-emergent cases.

Shifts are 10 hour days with one expected late stay per week. Shift duration is either 7:30am-6:00pm or 6:30am-5:00pm. Call shift is once every 5-6 weeks on a rotation. Staff can float to either campus depending on staffing needs and may be asked to float between campuses if they are on call or late stay to support patient needs.

  • Teching Role (Assisting while in-procedure!)

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventions

  • Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care

  • Empathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care

  • Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.

Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
