Description

  • Performs more complex and safe operation of ultrasound equipment to ensure high quality for diagnostic scans.

  • Performs, analyzes, and documents results of 2-D, M-Mode, and Doppler Echocardiograms as ordered by a physician to identify possible cardiac disorders.

  • Schedules and prepares patients for exams. Maintains supplies and equipment.

  • Operates other medical equipment as needed.

  • Provides quality patient care to patients undergoing procedures in the Echo Lab.

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • May participate in more complex procedures.

  • Communicates and explains various procedures to patient/family.

  • Processes all required paperwork, and has knowledge of all supplies and stock room.

  • Acts as a preceptor for new staff and students.

  • May coordinate activities in the area in the absence of the supervisor.

  • Performs and interprets the significance of various diagnostic tests.

  • Measures heart wall thickness and chamber sizes and compares measurement to standard norms to identify abnormalities in the heart.

  • Measures blood flow velocities and calculates data for evaluation of cardiac function by a physician.

  • Prepares a report for review by a cardiologist and documents observation.

  • Assists and performs multiple US scans and assists with Echo guided procedures in Echo department or as directed.

  • Provides more complex technical care to ensure high quality images.

  • Produces Echocardiographs and Doppler flow analyses of the heart and related structures by using ultrasound equipment to monitor the patient's heart rhythm.

  • Adjusts equipment controls according to the physician's orders and the areas of the heart to be examined to ensure image quality.

  • Accountable for safe operation of US equipment, inventory management and other specialty medical equipment.

  • May serve as resource for staff and students.

  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions.

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of digital reading stations, including duplication and navigation of studies.

  • Ensures that procedure rooms are stocked and that all supplies are within expiration period.

  • Extensive knowledge of procedural supplies and location of supplies.

  • Works with supervisory staff to ensure the appropriate supplies are available.

  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce their anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation.

  • Involves patient/family in the education of their imaging procedures.

  • Assists with development of education materials for use by the patients and their families.

  • Assumes responsibility and provides direct care for the complex patients receiving US scans and Echo guided procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and can participate on departmental based performace improvement team.

  • May act as Performance Improvement representative for the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Cardiac Credentialing International.

  • Minimum of three years clinical experience and two years in the area of concentration.

  • BLS certification required.

Location: Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital

Shift: Weekends Only

Cardiac Sonographer, Sr, WEO Salary: $31.36/hour-$51.69/hour

  • The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity.

  • This position is eligible for shift differentials.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks
