NANA Regional Corporation Architect Intern - Seasonal in Anchorage, Alaska

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and talented Architecture Summer Intern to join our team for the summer of 2024 (or possibly longer) who enjoys the great outdoors and has a venturous spirit. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in architecture to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-world projects under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Kuna has over 43 years of experience serving Alaskan communities. Founded in 1981 as ASCG, then WH Pacific and now as Kuna Engineering based out of Anchorage, Alaska. We are dedicated to creating work that is both sensitive to our harsh Alaskan climate but yet is modern, durable, and pleasing. Our projects focus primarily on commercial, governmental, industrial, and cultural workplace designs.

We are looking for an Intern who shares our passion for developing meaningful architecture within the vast expanse of Alaska from the Southeast Panhandle to the North Slope. We value innovative design thinking and productivity in executing our client’s vision. Candidates should embrace challenges and be resourceful.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Architectural team with project-specific designs that set industry benchmarks.

  • Work alongside seasoned Architects in analyzing, selecting, and advocating optimal design solutions.

  • Learn and work in Revit modeling and detailing collaboratively.

  • Forge dialogues across disciplines, spearheading integration with a multi-talented project team.

  • Perform site evaluations with comprehensive analysis and documentation.

  • Craft precise narratives, reports, and technical documents that underscore the highest quality standards within rigorous time and budgetary frameworks.

  • Assist with the construction oversight process and provide insightful reviews of shop drawings and prompt, problem-solving responses to RFIs.

  • Travel to various locations across Alaska to see projects in person and contribute accordingly to the architectural project demand.

  • Assist with the delivery of final designs and material selections.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of 4 th year in Architecture, 1st Year of Masters in Architectural degree, or recently graduated.

  • Exceptional design skills.

  • Strong graphic design sensibility.

  • Excellent Photoshop skills.

  • Knowledge of Revit is highly desirable.

  • Able to work full or part time in our offices in Anchorage.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Employee may travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
