What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

This position is open to being based remotely at any site along Colonial's Pipeline

About the Field Instrument Technician Position

As a Field Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for providing tier 2 level support for analytical instrumentation at Colonial’s remote field labs including coordinating preventive maintenance, repairs, and service calls. In this role you will be responsible for continually auditing and reviewing standard operating procedures and keeping abreast of changes to ASTM methods. The Field Instrument Technician will also be responsible for auditing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of product standards and control mechanisms.

What You Get to Do:

  • Create and maintain all standard operating procedures for quality assurance equipment within the system.

  • Complete Tier 2 repairs and/or coordinate with a repair services.

  • Manage all the work authorizations with the various service providers for instruments.

  • Maintains knowledge on current ASTM, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) specifications that govern the petroleum products testing environment.

  • Conduct training of field operations personnel on new benchtop equipment implemented in the field for normal pipeline testing operations.

  • Coordinate and manage all Statistical Quality Control testing as directed by ASTM D6299.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • High School Diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) from an accredited educational institution.

  • Ideally, 5+ years of experience in pipeline operations, laboratory, or refineries.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

  • Strong understanding of data generated by test methods and key quality processes.

  • Solid knowledge of federal and state regulatory and compliance issues.

  • Commitment to consistently adhere to policies and procedures and be a positive example for others by demonstrating the Company’s core values of Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Safety, and Excellence in completing work assignments.

  • Self-motivated, have phenomenal work ethic and looking for the right company to support your growth.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related science from an accredited college or university.

  • Prior experience in the refining or specialty chemical industry as a process engineer, chemist, quality manager, or lean/six sigma blackbelts.

  • Valid TWIC Card.
